NexGen Fitness offers a personalized, private workout experience through its newest location in McKinney. Located at 4701 South Custer Road, Ste. 300, NexGen Fitness opened in May with the goal of changing lives and developing relationships with clients.

“At NexGen, our trainers’ sole responsibility is to ensure clients are working toward achieving their goals,” franchise owner David D’Amico said. “The workout is geared specifically to you—it’s a personalized experience.”

D’Amico’s journey to become a full-time fitness instructor began nearly a decade ago when he moved to Dallas to work a 9-to-5 job for an engineering company, but his love for fitness began even earlier.

“I’ve always been very active and big into working out since high school,” he said. “I grew up loving to be active and taking care of my body, but I got burnt out after sitting at a desk all day and decided I wanted to change careers.”

D’Amico quit the corporate world and began working for Lifetime Fitness as a certified trainer prior to finding a job at the NexGen location in Frisco, where he worked his way up over the next seven years from being a trainer to becoming the studio manager.

“From there, it was falling in love with the NexGen mission—‘to obsessively serve our clients and transform lives through our love of fitness’— and seeing the success of the Frisco location and other studios opening across Dallas-Fort Worth,” he said. “I decided to explore owning my own location and started working toward that goal.”

Opening a new NexGen location in McKinney was the perfect choice for D’Amico and his family, who live in nearby Melissa. Plus, being in a fast-growth area checked off even more boxes.

“The growth that’s happening in McKinney is unbelievable,” he said. “From the point of view of starting a business, it’s a great place to be.”

D’Amico’s new studio location features two private training suites fully stocked with state-of-the-art equipment including dumbbells, kettlebells, cable machine, squat rack, and a leg press. When clients show up for their workouts, they have the entire room—essentially a miniature gym—to themselves with their personal trainer who is completely focused on working toward their goals, regardless of fitness level.

“If you’ve been sedentary for your whole life or just a few years, we write workouts taking that into account,” D’Amico said. “The goal is to not hurt you. We know how to gradually build people up.”

The average client will workout between two and three times per week with a personal trainer at NexGen and will be encouraged to complete another two days of workouts on their own that could range from a walk or run outside to a bicycle ride. Additionally, clients have access to all the cardio equipment at NexGen like treadmills, ellipticals, a stationary bike, and a stair climber anytime the studio is open.

NexGen offers a variety of amenities for all of its clients as well, including bottled water, towels and a shower fully stocked with towels, body wash and shampoo. Plus, the studio offers nutritional guidance through metabolic testing as part of the initial assessments performed on all new clients.

“We set clients up on a daily calorie goal and give them access to our NexGen Nutrition app where they have access to a full week of meal plans for their calorie goals,” D’Amico said. “All of our meal plans are designed by a dietician.”

Clients can also keep track of their personal progress and stats over time on their fitness journey: NexGen provides everyone with a heart rate chest strap monitor that they can use inside and outside of the studio. There are also television monitors at the studio that display each client’s total calories burned during a workout along with what workout zones they hit during a session.

Private training sessions at NexGen last 45 minutes and can be booked every 50 minutes throughout the day when the studio is open, which is from 5 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 6 a.m.-noon on Saturday.

For D’Amico and his team, they are in the business to help people and give them a solid foundation to build on over time as their fitness goals change and expand. Any prospective clients can receive a free 45-minute workout session with no strings attached if they are interested in joining NexGen but are not sure what to expect.

“We’re looking to change lives and develop relationships with people,” D’Amico said. “Our mission and business approach is completely with a servanthood mindset. It’s all about giving the clients what they need and getting them where they want to be.”
