Dripping Springs ISD staff will be paid for days missed during winter storm closures

Dripping Springs ISD staff will be paid in full for their contractual work days during the emergency closure of the district due to Winter Storm Mara.

The DSISD board of trustees adopted the resolution Feb. 27 during a regular board meeting, which will allow staff to be compensated for the days missed due to the districtwide closure that lasted from Jan. 31 to Feb. 3.

Paying staff for the four days missed does not affect the district’s operating fiscal year 2022-23 budget as the payment of those work days for each employee was already accounted for as an expense in the budget, according to Lisa Hall, DSISD chief human resources officer.

Staff scheduled on the four days the district unexpectedly closed would have lost pay and days off paid or unpaid if not for the resolution.

Superintendent Holly Morris-Kuentz initiated the closures districtwide for safety reasons. After-school activities and meetings were canceled Jan. 30, and schools remained closed through Feb. 3.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for both Travis and Hays counties that began Jan. 30 and ended at 10 a.m. Feb. 2.

DSISD schools remained closed through Feb. 3 due to power outages and damages from the storm despite the winter weather advisory lifting Feb. 2.
