As Central Texas emerges out of the National Weather Service's winter storm warning Feb. 2, Hays County is urging residents not to call 911 for a downed power line unless they are in an immediate danger. Freezing rain and accumulated ice have caused power outages throughout the region and even a boil water notice in New Braunfels.
In the event of a downed power line, home and business owners are asked to contact their electric service provider. In Hays County, there are power outages in about 12% of Pedernales Electric Cooperative coverage.
PEC crews continue to respond to outages in the area but are unable to provide timeframes for restoration due to the volume of outages, according to a press release.
"Some outages may require more extensive repairs and could extend into Thursday evening. As of 11 a.m., nearly 90% of PEC members have power," the release stated.
