During its Jan. 27 meeting, Shavano Park City Council approved a resolution ordering a May 3 general election.

The overview

The resolution set the date for the general election for two aldermen’s seats and the position of mayor.

For names to be placed on the ballot, candidates must file with Kristen Hetzel, the Shavano Park city secretary, no later than 5 p.m. Feb. 14 at Shavano Park City Hall, 900 Saddletree Court. Candidates can file in person, by mail, fax or email.

According to city documents, polls on election day will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. May 3 at Shavano Park City Hall. Residents may also vote at any Bexar County polling location. Voting will be conducted through electronic voting devices that are in compliance with Texas’ Help America Vote Act.


Early voting will be held from April 22-29 at Shavano Park City Hall. To vote by mail, voters should send their ballots to the Bexar County Elections Administrator, Early Voting Clerk at 1103 S. Frio St., Ste. 200, San Antonio.

Additionally, the resolution authorized the Bexar County Elections Department to conduct, supervise and administer the election.

Bexar County Elections Department services include:
  • Procurement and distribution of election supplies, including printing and distribution of ballots for mail-in balloting
  • Hire, train and pay election judges, clerks and other election personnel
  • Secure early voting and election day polling sites
  • Conduct early voting in person and by mail
  • Conduct election day voting
  • Tabulate election returns
  • Conduct election services for runoff if necessary
