VIA Metropolitan Transit announced that Adrian Reyna will be the newest labor representative on its board of trustees Nov. 21.

Long story short

Reyna is a lifelong San Antonio resident and third-generation public school educator. He succeeds trustee Bob Comeaux, who left the board after reaching his eight-year term limit.

He is an award-winning U.S. history teacher in his 14th year working in San Antonio ISD. For the last two years, Reyna has served as a Teacher on Special Assignment, assisting the Human Capital Management Transition Team as a liaison between district leadership and the San Antonio Alliance of Teachers and Support Personnel.

He is also serving a second term as executive vice president of the San Antonio Alliance and is a founding member of PODER, the Social Justice Caucus of the Alliance. He also serves on the executive board of San Antonio’s AFL-CIO Central Labor Council.

Reyna holds degrees in government and political communication from The University of Texas at Austin and spent two years as a legislative aide for then-state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte before returning to San Antonio to teach. He also earned a master’s in educational leadership from Trinity University.

Quote of note

“As a union leader and labor representative on the VIA board, I will focus on working with all stakeholders to center the voices and needs of working-class San Antonians and the workers who move VIA and San Antonio forward,” Reyna said.
