Scoop Street Owners Peter and Ashley Landerman strive to support the local art community through ice cream.

Digging deeper

The locally-owned ice cream shop, located at 230 W. San Antonio St., opened its doors to the New Braunfels community in 2017. Peter Landerman said their mission is to support local artists through their business with different collaborations.

For example, local artist Johnny Duncan, did the shop's branding and collaborates with Scoop Street on different T-shirt designs. The Landermans also support Art Haus on First Fridays—a community event presented by Duncan and The Greater New Braunfels Art Council.

"There's not really a lot of avenues to support local artists so we try and use our businesses as a way to do that," Peter Landerman said.

What they offer

Scoop Street churns each batch of ice-cream in house. Patrons can choose from eleven different flavors, including taro, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, coffee and Oreo. The ice cream shop also sells soda, cold brew and Prosecco floats, milkshakes and coffee.

Peter Landerman said they will be getting a larger case in the next month or so, which will allow them to offer sixteen flavors instead of eleven.

"We always try and do a different vegan ice cream," Peter Landerman said. "We've been getting local pecans and making our own pecan milk and then we make an ice cream out of that."

One more thing

Peter Landerman said they are building an offsite kitchen because they have surpassed their ability to make and store ice cream at their downtown location.

"With that, we'll probably be able to have some more offerings—like grab-and-go pints is something we want to move towards—and then hopefully getting a second scoop shop opened up in the next year or so," Peter Landerman said.

Peter Landerman said they hope to be operating out of their commercial kitchen by May.
