Digging deeper
Some of the projects are designed to prepare Celina for future growth, according to city staff.
Coit Road will eventually expand to six lanes, but “the full conversion of Coit Road to concrete is several years away,” according to city documents. In the meantime, upcoming construction will help extend the lifespan of existing lanes.
“As the city’s population grows, the pavement condition of Coit Road has been deteriorating,” city staff said in their report.
Improving intersections along Dallas Parkway will help integrate existing roads with the Dallas North Tollway expansion, which city officials expect to be a source of growth.
Other projects, such as the work planned for Hillside Drive and Oklahoma Drive, will help address drainage issues, something council members cited as a priority at a Dec. 9 meeting about future downtown street reconstruction.
Next steps
Officials will organize public meetings between contractors and nearby residents before construction starts on Hillside Drive, Coit Road and Oklahoma Drive, according to city documents.
