Legacy intersections, East Virginia Street improvements: See 5 DFW transportation updates

Upcoming projects

1. Legacy Drive widening

Project: Legacy Drive will be widened from Lebanon Road to Stonebrook Parkway in Frisco. Stonebrook Parkway will also be widened from Legacy Drive to 4th Army Drive as part of the project. The roadways will also be reconstructed along with the widening.

Update: The project is currently in the design phase. Construction is set to start later this year.

2. East Virginia Street improvements

Project: Reconstruction of East Virginia Street in McKinney will occur between Murray Street and Airport Drive. The project will include a new alignment and connection to Airport Drive and a new roundabout at the intersection of Virginia Street and Lively Hill Lane. The project includes waterline, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, illumination, hardscape and landscape improvements.

Update: Design work is 90% complete. Franchise utility coordination and right-of-way acquisitions are underway. The project is expected to bid in early 2027.

Ongoing projects

3. North Carroll Avenue improvements

Project: The project includes six phases that have added lanes along North Carroll Avenue in Southlake between Main Street and the frontage roads for SH 114. Crews have also made improvements at intersections within the corridor.

Update: Construction on the project is substantially complete, but remaining items, such as the internally illuminated street name signs and retroreflective signal backplates, are taking longer to arrive, city officials said. Once Texas Department of Transportation officials inspect the intersections and approve it, the project will be finished.

4. North Walnut Street improvements

Project: Crews are constructing a new concrete street with curb and gutter drainage improvements in Roanoke. Sidewalks and street lighting from Byron Nelson Boulevard to North Oak Street will be installed. Storm drainage improvements will also occur along Lois Street.

Update: Storm drain installation on North Walnut Street from Lois Street to North Oak Street was completed in August. North Oak Street is for residential traffic only from Byron Nelson Boulevard to James Street. The street and sidewalk portion of the project should be completed by late October or early November, Roanoke Public Engagement Manager Sandra Pettigrew said.

5. Legacy area intersection work

Project: Five intersections in Plano’s Legacy area are seeing new turn lanes and safety improvements.

Update: The intersections at JP Morgan Chase, SH 121 and Legacy Drive, Towne Square Drive and Preston Road have been completed. Work is ongoing at Legacy Drive and Corporate Drive as well as at Corporate Drive and Tennyson Parkway.
