Plano joins regional cities in annual peanut butter drive

Plano is participating in North Texas Food Bank’s Peanut Butter Drive this September.

The nonprofit hosts the annual event during Hunger Action Month to raise awareness about food insecurity. Peanut butter is a highly needed, nonperishable, child-friendly and high-protein food, according to the food bank.

Almond, hazelnut, sunflower seed and soy butters are also accepted. The food bank is asking participants to avoid donating glass containers.

Donations can be dropped off at North Texas Food Bank’s Plano campus, 3677 Mapleshade Lane, at the H-E-B Donation Door, according to the food bank.

“Each year our community gathers to spread hope to hungry children and families by donating peanut butter in September,” Mayor John Muns said in a statement. “We are excited to continue this effort with everyone in Collin County and beyond.”

Last year, more than 287,000 pounds of peanut butter were collected, which was an increase of 49% from the previous year, according to the food bank. Peanut butter from the drive is donated to local food banks.
