Editor's note: This story has been revised to reflect the Goodwill location's new opening date due to construction delays.
A new Goodwill location is opening along Independence Parkway in Plano.
The details
The new Plano location is the first of its kind as a “small-format” store, according to a news release from the company. Goodwill offers secondhand and affordable items for residents to shop for.
“This store is a blueprint for how Goodwill Dallas turns vacant spaces into neighborhood assets, creating jobs, funding workforce development and keeping quality goods accessible to families who need them most,” President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Dallas Tim Heis said.
This location is in the same space of a former Walgreens. It will bring 70 jobs for the neighborhood, per the news release.
The background
Goodwill Industries of Dallas is a non-profit organization that has operated in the Dallas area since 1923, according to the release. The Dallas branch operates in Dallas, Ellis, Kaufman, Navarro, Rains, Rockwall and parts of Denton and Collin counties. It has two other locations in Plano.
