Plano commission reapproves Bob Woodruff Park renovations

Plano’s Planning and Zoning Commission reapproved a revised site plan for Bob Woodruff Park renovations at a meeting Aug. 3.

The gist

A revised site plan for renovations at Bob Woodruff Park was reapproved to start its second phase of construction. Park Planning Manager Katie Dunham said renovations have been delayed because of erosive conditions at a pedestrian bridge crossing along the park’s trails.

The first phase of construction involved renovations for the park’s playground and parking lot. The second phase includes renovations to the park’s trail system, including relocating the pedestrian bridge, per city documents. Dunham said the second phase will also renovate roughly 0.6 miles of trails north of the park playground.

The park’s site plan was first approved July 2024 but expired July 2026, according to city documents. A city ordinance allows applicants to petition the Planning and Zoning Commission to extend or reinstate approval for a previously approved site plan.

Looking ahead

Some of Bob Woodruff Park’s trails have also been partially closed until September for new light replacements at the park pond, per previous reporting. The park’s playground and parking area is expected to reopen February 2027.

The Plano Parks and Recreation Department will seek a contractor before the end of 2026 after the commission’s reapproval. Construction for the second phase of the project is expected to start in spring 2027.
