Austin Transit Partnership office search continues as officials press for lower costs, risks
The Austin Transit Partnership continues to pursue new offices for its growing workforce as its development of Austin Light Rail ramps up.
A decision on the transit planning organization's next home could come in September, months after officials declined to approve a $32 million luxury office lease downtown following opposition from Mayor Kirk Watson.
"The agency was not as clear, was not as transparent, and was not as open about why it was making decisions when it announced and we were going to vote on space. And as a result of that, I think it puts the agency in a situation where it has at least some credibility issue," Watson, who serves as vice chair on the ATP board, said during an Aug. 19 discussion.

Eagles Nest Street extension moves forward in Round Rock
The first phase of a project to extend Eagles Nest Street to west Round Rock is in motion.
City officials bid out a contract to build the road to its eventual intersection with Mays Street Aug. 17.
Future plans for the road include a crossing at I-35, Public Works Director Michael Thane said.

Georgetown officials consider raising rideGTX fees, adjusting operating hours
Officials are considering changes to Georgetown’s ride-hailing program, rideGTX, to cut down on costs following the council guidance to start phasing out the GoGeo program.
Council members directed staff to increase the base fare, reduce overnight service hours and remove service in the extraterritorial jurisdiction.
Because of the growing popularity of the service, the program could cost the city $795,000 to $865,000 per year, according to city documents.

Road work projects around CedarView development to be completed before Scheels opening
Two roadwork projects around the CedarView development in north Cedar Park will be completed by late August, a news release from the city states.
Traffic signals at the intersection of New Hope Drive and Enchanted Rock Drive were expected to be fully live July 30. Work on the intersection of New Hope Drive and Main Street-Block House Drive is expected to be completed by the time Scheels opens Aug. 29.

Study shows Austin-San Antonio rail could hit 125 mph
A Travis County-funded feasibility study has found no engineering dealbreakers for a 125 mph passenger rail line connecting Austin and San Antonio, Travis County Judge Andy Brown announced Aug. 20.
The roughly $13.5 billion project would run largely on public right-of-way along SH 130 and I-10, cutting travel time between the two cities to 55-65 minutes, according to county documents.
The line would connect Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to a terminus near downtown San Antonio's Alamodome, with connectivity to the existing San Antonio Amtrak Station, and run independently of freight trains, per the study.

WilCo commissioners support TxDOT I-35 expansion project
Williamson County commissioners voted Aug. 18 to formally support the expansion of I-35 through the county, a project led by the Texas Department of Transportation and sent the department a list of requests. Requests from county commissioners are treated as formal proposals, though are not legally binding.
Commissioners requested that the expansion include at least two additional non-tolled lanes in each direction, two managed lanes in each direction, and collector or distributor roads through Round Rock, according to county documents.
The deadline to submit formal comments regarding the project is Aug. 28, Precinct 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long said.
