Austin Light Rail vehicle design to advance under $39M contract with Stadler
Switzerland-based Stadler has been selected to deliver the train cars for Austin Light Rail, the third and final major vendor brought on for the project's first stages this year.
Officials with the Austin Transit Partnership, the entity overseeing the transit program, advanced a $39 million contract with Stadler to design the fully electric vehicles July 15.
The multibillion-dollar Austin Light Rail, a central piece of the Project Connect transit initiative, will run through portions of Central and East Austin with nearly 10 miles of track and 15 stations. Its financing is roughly split between local revenue from a 2020 voter-approved tax increase and federal grant funding that's yet to be secured.
New Braunfels City Council OKs $700K EDC investment for pedestrian improvements
The New Braunfels Economic Development Corp., or NBEDC, will be allocating $700,000 in funds for Phase 1 of the AAMPO Citywide Pedestrian Improvements Project after City Council approval July 14.
Phase 1 of the Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Citywide Pedestrian Improvements Project aims to increase pedestrian connectivity by filling sidewalk gaps and adding Americans with Disabilities Act concerns at Alves Lane and Brook Avenue, the Christus Santa Rosa area, Oak Run Parkway, County Line Road and FM 725, according to July 13 City Council agenda documents.

CapMetro to collect public feedback on proposed fare increases
Capital Metro customers and community members will be able to provide feedback on CapMetro's proposed fare increases, the first for the agency since 2015.
The agency is proposing a phased approach to implementing the new fares, with potential fare adjustments Jan. 10, 2027, and again in January 2029. Under this plan, fares for a single ride would increase by the following:
Residents on Round Rock’s west side will soon have a true alternative to I-35 once the city and county complete the full extension of Wyoming Springs Drive, officials said in June. Ongoing and future road projects are set to help drivers and pedestrians reach their destinations faster and with less traffic.
Construction on the second phase, connecting Creek Bend Boulevard to Old Settlers Boulevard and adding an overpass at Hairy Man Road, is set to be completed this fall.

Georgetown opens Phase 1 of DB Wood Road expansion
Georgetown officials celebrated the completion of a project to expand DB Wood Road from Hwy. 29 to Oak Ridge Road at a July 22 ribbon-cutting.
The city began construction on the 1.4-mile section of DB Wood in the fall of 2023, expanding the road to four lanes with a median and shared-use path.
"The No. 1 thing that our community wants us to be working on ... is to improve traffic flow in Georgetown," City Manager David Morgan said at the ribbon-cutting. "This will be a key advancement of that."
New bridge over Onion Creek opens in Buda, increasing city access
When Buda Mayor Lee Urbanovsky first ran for the City Council in 2016, former council member Wiley Hopkins told him the city’s transportation system needed a second crossing on Onion Creek, he said.
Ten years later, on July 17, the second creek crossing became a reality with the opening of a new bridge on Cole Springs Road and the official launch of The Colony at Cole Springs, a new 496-home master-planned community.
The bridge will provide community members and first responders a faster route to travel in the city, connecting Cole Springs Road with FM 2770, Urbanovsky said.
