When Buda Mayor Lee Urbanovsky first ran for the City Council in 2016, former council member Wiley Hopkins told him the city’s transportation system needed a second crossing on Onion Creek, he said.
Ten years later, on July 17, the second creek crossing became a reality with the opening of a new bridge on Cole Springs Road and the official launch of The Colony at Cole Springs, a new 496-home master-planned community.
“These projects take a lot of work on multiple different levels, and it takes all of us to get this thing done,” Urbanovsky said. “This bridge creates a critical connection, providing an alternate path for parts of Buda to move forward to increase our traffic flow.”

Diving deeper
The Colony of Cole Springs development is located on the west side of Onion Creek and the new bridge. Homes in the community are currently for sale as the neighborhood is further developed.

“This $7.6 million infrastructure commitment just underscores how important it is to Meritage that we not just build better homes, but also better communities,” said Bryan Crouch, Meritage Homes Austin and San Antonio area president. “The homes are high quality. There's a lot of thought that goes into them.”
The development features Clarissa Street, a new primary roadway that connects Cole Springs Road to Old Black Colony Road, and an elevated storage tank for the city, according to the city of Buda website.

“For MI Homes, this bridge represents more than access to a new community. It reflects a thoughtful partnership that helps the city grow,” said Derek Baker, M/I Homes Austin area president.
Student residents in the community will be zoned in Hays CISD and attend Elm Grove Elementary School, Dahlstrom Middle School and Johnson High School.
