Bastrop County to consider hearing on Old Bastrop Road renaming
Bastrop County residents could soon have a chance to weigh in on the potential renaming of a portion of Old Bastrop Road in Cedar Creek—about a mile northwest of a planned retail center.
Bastrop County commissioners will consider setting a July 27 public hearing during their July 13 meeting for the proposed road renaming.
The proposal would rename about 700 feet of Old Bastrop Road, from SH 71 West to the 90-degree turn that continues to Travis County, and south to Tucker Hill Lane, according to county documents.
Buda awarded over $10M in federal funding for East Main Street reconstruction
East Main Street, Buda’s primary commercial road east of the I-35, currently allows two-way traffic on a single lane in each direction with one center turn lane. Congestion on the road has increased as the city has grown due to the configuration, according to a city of Buda news release.
Buda was awarded $10.48 million in federal transportation funding through the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, or CAMPO, to reconstruct East Main Street between I-35 and Firecracker Drive.
The future East Main Street reconstruction project will expand the roadway to a four-lane corridor with a raised median and dedicated left-turn lanes. The project will include a 10-foot shared-use path on both sides of the road to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists, according to the release.
Cedar Park to improve more neighborhood roads
More Cedar Park residents will see their neighborhood roads resurfaced after the city expanded a roadwork project to include additional streets in the Cedar Park Square and Ranchettes subdivisions.
Cedar Park City Council approved a change to the city’s contract with Lone Star Paving on June 25. The change order adds ten new streets to the project, with the existing asphalt removed and replaced with a new 2-inch asphalt surface.
Gattis School Road lane closures in effect through end of July for construction
Drivers in eastern Round Rock can expect traffic delays along Gattis School Road this month.
A section of Gattis School Road between Via Sonoma Trail and High Country Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction until the end of July, according to the city of Round Rock. The closure will facilitate installation of three waterline crossings.
This section of the street is part of the Gattis School Road Segment 6 widening project, as previously reported by Community Impact. The road project—part of the city’s Transportation Master Plan—includes widening the existing four-lane roadway to a six-lane arterial thoroughfare with a raised median. The project also includes pedestrian and bicycle improvements, according to city documents.
Kyle reports progress on 2022 Road Bond projects
Voters in the city of Kyle approved a bond for eight transportation projects totaling 10.3 miles of new roadways, street reconstructions and widenings in November 2022. The projects have seen substantial progress and will hit crucial milestones throughout 2026.
All eight of the projects included in the 2022 Kyle Road Bond are in the design, bid or construction phase, or have been completed, according to agenda documents.
Roadway plans move forward as Dog's Head site prepped for major industrial project
Preparations for the first major addition to the recently annexed Dog's Head are underway, while local leaders ready to adopt a long-term public financing plan for upgrades across the more than 4-square-mile East Austin megasite.
A range of mixed-use development is possible across the Dog's Head after city officials' initial vote for a long-term deal this spring. Overall plans have yet to be detailed by Endeavor Real Estate Group, but local governments are moving quickly through their reviews this summer in anticipation of securing the area's first major industrial tenant.
