Upcoming projects
Centerpoint Road Crossing Overpass
Project: Crews will construct an overpass over the Union Pacific Railroad crossing on Centerpoint Road in San Marcos, eliminating the conflict between trains and roadway traffic. The project will feature a widened roadway with a median and shoulders and shared-use paths on both sides.
Update: The project secured a $39.23 million federal award through the Federal Railroad Administration’s Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Program.
I-35 North widening
Project: This project widens I-35 from SH 45 to Hwy. 29, adding two nontolled high-occupancy vehicle lanes in each direction as well as an additional main lane between FM 1431 and Hwy. 29. The project will also include new bypass lanes and the relocation and modification of some entrance and exit ramps.
Update: The Texas Department of Transportation began holding community meetings and information sessions about the project in August. The project is in the design phase and environmental studies are ongoing.
Timeline: TBD
Cost: TBD
Funding source: TxDOT
Ongoing projects
New Hope Drive expansion
Project: Traffic changes are underway as the city expands New Hope Drive in Cedar Park from four to six lanes and introduces an innovative intersection at 183A Toll.
Update: Construction is active between Block House Drive and CR 180, with a traffic shift involving the left-turn lanes from 183A onto New Hope Drive. Design work continues on the western segment toward Lakeline Boulevard.
Timeline: September 2024–spring 2027
Cost: $1.8 million for the design phase
Funding source: 2022 transportation bond
Spicewood Springs Road Regional Mobility Project
Project: The project includes widening the two-lane road in Northwest Austin into a four-lane road with left-turn bays, creating two water detention ponds and pedestrian and bicycle shared-use paths, and improving the storm drain system, water transmission and wastewater lines.
Update: An Aug. 11 update from the city stated that weather-related delays throughout the spring and summer had pushed the project's substantial completion from late 2026 to summer 2027. Starting in September, work will be underway on shared-use pathways on both sides of Spicewood Springs Road, and crews will continue to work on rain gardens and paving travel lanes this fall.

Update: The bridge is now fully operational, as two lanes reopened in each direction in early August. Crews are finishing shared-use paths and wider sidewalks this month.
Timeline: October 2024–August 2026
Cost: $34.4 million (part of the $4.5 billion I-35 CapEx Central budget)
Funding source: TxDOT and Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization
