Crews began work on the Williams Drive enhancement project in September to improve safety and accessibility, according to Georgetown’s capital improvement projects page.

Upcoming projects
SE Inner Loop
Project: A 2.91-mile stretch of SE Inner Loop will be widened to a four-lane, divided road from Hwy. 29 to FM 1460. A shared-use path will also be added.
Update: Utility relocations are under way from FM 1460 to Southwestern Boulevard. The advertising and bidding process will follow later this year.
Leander Road
Project: Expand Leander Road to four lanes from Southwest Bypass to Norwood Drive.
Update: As of September, all right of way has been acquired, and utilities are continuing to be relocated. The Texas Department of Transportation will begin construction next October.

Williams Drive enhancements
Project: The initial phase of the project includes building a raised center median, adding street lighting and landscaping, and upgrading intersections and traffic signals from Serenada Drive to Lakeway Drive.
Update: Construction began Sept. 16. Some traffic patterns and access points to neighborhoods and businesses will change.
Timeline: September 2026-late 2027
Cost: $10.5 million
Funding sources: city of Georgetown, traffic impact fees, federal grants, tax increment financing
Shell Road widening
Project: The city will widen Shell Road from Williams Drive to Sycamore Street to four lanes with a raised median, shared-use path, and left- and right-turn lanes.
Update: As of September, crews are working on storm sewer installation. Street lights and signals have been installed at Rosedale but not yet activated. Road base testing is ongoing.
Austin Avenue vehicular bridges
Project: This project includes reconstruction of two vehicular bridges crossing the San Gabriel River.
Update: The southbound Austin Avenue bridge decks were demolished starting in early June, and the contractor will then begin work on the northbound bridge decks once reconstruction is complete.
Completed projects
Rockride Lane
Project: Rockride Lane is being upgraded to a two-lane collector with a continuous center left-turn lane and a 10-foot-wide shared-use path from SE Inner Loop to Sam Houston Avenue.
Update: The road officially opened to traffic in early September.
