City of Round Rock and Williamson County officials celebrated the opening of the East Old Settlers Boulevard extension Sept. 21. The road now connects Red Bud Lane to CR 110.

Upcoming projects
I-35 North widening
Project: This project widens I-35 from SH 45 to Hwy. 29, adding two nontolled high occupancy vehicle lanes in each direction as well as an additional main lane between FM 1431 and Hwy. 29. The project will also include new bypass lanes and the relocation and modification of some entrance and exit ramps.
Update: The Texas Department of Transportation began holding community meetings and information sessions about the project in August. The project is in the design phase and environmental studies are ongoing.
North Mays Street widening
Project: This project will see North Mays Street widened to five lanes with two northbound lanes, two southbound lanes and one middle turn lane. It will be widened in two sections, one from Paloma Drive to Steam Way and the other from Oakmont Drive to University Boulevard. It will include a 10-foot-wide shared-use path on the west side and a six-foot-wide sidewalk on the east side of the roadway.
Update: Design plans for the project are 95% complete. Right of way acquisitions and utility relocation efforts are underway.
Kenney Fort Boulevard segments 5 and 6
Project: This project will extend Kenney Fort Boulevard from its current terminus at Old Settlers Boulevard to University Boulevard.
Update: Round Rock City Council approved the $2.8 million purchase of 8.085 acres of right of way for the next segment of the road in August. The project is in the final stages of design.
Ongoing projects
Wyoming Springs Drive extension
Project: The project will extend Wyoming Springs Drive from its current terminus at Creek Bend Boulevard to Old Settlers Boulevard. The extension will be a new four-lane divided roadway with shared use paths.
Update: Crews began installing corridor fencing and bridge railings to restrict outside access to the road in August. The final steps of the project include the last layer of asphalt and pavement striping.
Completed projects
East Old Settlers Boulevard extension
Project: This project extends East Old Settlers Boulevard from Red Bud Lane to CR 110. The new road segment is four lanes and includes a bridge over McNutt Creek.
Update: The extension opened to drivers in September.
