What we reported

Controversy swirled around a Plano City Council seat last February after a series of anti-Islam posts and links were shared from Councilman Tom Harrison’s personal Facebook page. Harrison’s council colleagues voted to censure him, but he said he would not resign. A group of residents circulated a petition to remove Harrison from office, but fell short of the number of signatures needed for a recall election in November.

The latest

Harrison announced Jan. 11 he would not seek re-election, citing health issues. A staunch opponent of apartment-heavy development proposals, Harrison’s seat will be up for a vote in May. Councilwoman Angela Miner also said she would not run for re-election this year. Ron Kelley and Rick Grady told Community Impact Newspaper they intended to file. The filing period for candidates is open through Feb. 15.
