Whether it is for a resort or sports, the city or the county, development continues in the Lake Travis-Westlake area. The Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa is on track to open in May after a $150 million makeover. In August the new 493-guestroom tower was completed. The lobby includes a wraparound porch, fireplace and casual lobby bar lounge, a press release said. A new multitiered pool deck features an infinity pool overlooking the 18th green of the Fazio Foothills golf course, and guests can relax poolside in several hot tubs and private cabanas, the release said. Other additions include a new event pavilion, a grand ballroom, six meeting rooms and additional pre-function space in the new conference center. All the existing rooms have been remodeled and improvements were added to the golf course, as well. In late 2018, the resort debuted a newly enhanced Coore Crenshaw Cliffside course, and a renovation to Fazio Canyons course will be completed in October, the release said. The Bee Creek Sports Complex is in the design phase, which is expected to be complete in the summer with construction beginning this fall, said Hector Nieto, Travis County public information officer. The goal of the Bee Creek Sports Complex is to meet the need for youth sports facilities in the rapidly growing communities of Precinct 3 in southwest Travis County, Nieto said, referencing the project’s website. The project was recommended by a citizen advisory committee for inclusion in Travis County’s 2017 park bond package, which voters subsequently approved in a November 2017 referendum, Nieto said. Through an agreement with the city of Lakeway, the county is leasing 70 acres of city-owned land on Bee Creek Road for the sports complex that it will develop, operate, maintain, and manage. The Bee Creek Sports Complex will have soccer, baseball, softball and football fields; parking; restrooms; a team meeting facility; a trailhead and primitive trail; a playground area; a maintenance building; and other amenities. Construction on Bee Cave Professional Park began at the end of the year. Bee Cave Acupuncture; Colley Law Firm; and Bee Cave Game Changer, an insurance business, had all submitted tenant finish-out applications to the city as of December, Director of Planning and Development Lindsey Oskoui said. The site includes a 23-foot-tall, one-story building with 7,900 square feet of floor space along with parking and utilities. Half the building will be used for medical offices, with the second half available for other offices, Community Impact Newspaper previously reported. Estimated construction completion is April, said Jeremy Koomler with Cornerstone Architects. Lakeway’s new police facility is expected to finish out construction in mid-February, about a year after it broke ground. The department is scheduled to move into the new building at the end of March or early April, Lakeway Chief of Police Todd Radford said. The 31,000-square-foot facility is expected to serve the city for the next 25 years; and voters approved funds for the $23.18 million project in May 2017. The police facility will include space for police administration, patrol, dispatch, criminal investigation divisions and support services as well as a training room, staff and building support, property and evidence rooms, temporary holding and exercise-training areas, a sally port for detainee transfers, and a secure parking area for police vehicles and employees’ personal vehicles.
