Two major Plano hospitals have announced they received higher designations for their neonatal intensive care units.
Texas Health Plano announced it received a Level IV designation for its NICU, the state’s highest designation. Texas Health is the first to receive the designation in Collin County. Medical City Plano also announced it had received a Level III designation for its NICU, which is the second-highest designation a hospital can receive.
Texas Health’s NICU cares for infants as small as 14 ounces and 22 weeks gestation, according to a Texas Health news release.
“Texas Health Plano recently received Level II Trauma designation by the state, so we are used to providing highly complex emergency services to adults and children,” Texas Health Plano President Josh Floren said in the news release. "The decision to seek Level IV designation in the NICU is an extension of the work that we have been doing on this campus to be able to provide highly complex services to our patients that are most in need of these services.”
Texas Health Plano's Level II trauma designation is the second-highest trauma designation a hospital can receive. Medical City Plano holds a Level I trauma designation—the highest designation a hospital can receive.
“Maintaining this advanced Level III NICU designation, with a family-centered philosophy, reinforces our commitment to providing all mothers and babies that come through our doors with excellent care,” Medical City Plano CEO Charles Gressle said in a separate news release.
