Return of Mustang Square: Developer submits plan with townhouses, not apartments, to city of Plano

Plano City Council will consider a revamped plan to develop Mustang Square roughly a year after it rejected a mixed-use proposal in 2017 for the same property that drew opposition from some nearby residents for its mix of apartments and other housing.

The Plano Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday approved a zoning change to allow the construction of 95 townhouse lots and a food truck park as part of a 46-acre, mixed-use project at Mustang Square, located southwest of where SH 121 meets Rasor Boulevard.

Plano City Council will still need to approve the proposal at a future meeting before the zoning change is granted.

Instead of the apartments and senior living that featured prominently in the previous plan, the residential components of the new iteration of Mustang Square would consist entirely of single-family townhouses, not apartments.

The site plan approved on Monday included 95 townhouse lots, 140,000 square feet of office space and 61,000 square feet of retail and restaurants. It would also include a movie theater, assembly hall and outdoor food truck park.
