Georgetown ISD trustees heard updates Monday on bonds, community engagement strategies and more.
Here are three takeaways:
1. Williamson County disburses money from Child Safety Fund to Georgetown ISD
Williamson County Tax Assessor-Collector Larry Gaddes told trustees the district will receive $63,661.57 from the Child Safety Fund, which collects money from $1.50 fees charges on vehicle registrations in the county. The fund is designed to support child safety and health and nutrition as well as child abuse prevention and intervention. Superintendent Fred Brent said the money will fund GISD's crossing guard program.
2. Bond projects coming along, GISD official says
Projects funded by GISD's 2015 bond election are moving along, Director of Facilities and Construction David Biesheuvel said.
At Tippit Middle School, renovations to the cafeteria and other common areas are anticipated to finish in late July completion, Biesheuvel said, and the half of the classrooms that were not renovated last summer will be done next summer, while students are on break.
Furniture will be moved into Georgetown High School this week along with equipment into the school's new engineering lab.
The new campuses for Wagner Middle School and Purl Elementary School are complete as well as new secure entries at Frost Elementary School and Benold Middle School, Biesheuvel said.
3. GISD looks to build community relationships with survey and committee
Brent said the district has organized a new survey and a citizens’ advisory committee for parents and community members. The survey is available online until Jan. 10.
In January, the district will post information about the new committee on its website, including details on how to nominate committee members. The first meeting of the committee is tentatively scheduled for March 6.
