The Austin City Council is seeking public feedback on a potential paid sick leave policy for private employers in Austin. On Sept. 28, the City Council passed a resolution requiring staff support for a series of stakeholder meetings to gain public feedback on the potential new policy. The first of these meetings is tonight, Thursday, Nov. 2, from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Asian American Resource Center, 8401 Cameron Road. The other two meetings will be 4-6:30 p.m. on Nov. 16 at Town Lake Center Assembly Room 130, 721 Barton Springs Road, and 4-6:30 p.m. on Nov. 30 at Fiesta Gardens, 2101 Jesse E. Segovia St. City staff is looking for feedback on who should be covered by the policy; how sick leave should be used for broad purposes, such as related to domestic violence or criminal justice-related appointments; how the city of Austin should manage and fund enforcement of private employer paid sick time and other topics. Residents can also participate through an online forum set up by the city. After the last input collection meeting Nov. 30, city staff will compile a report for the council's consideration.
