Here's what you need to know to start your week in San Marcos, Buda and Kyle:

1. Domino's, San Marcos Fire Department partner during fire prevention week
The San Marcos Domino's Pizza, 1290 Wonder World Drive, is helping to promote fire safety this week with the San Marcos Fire Department. On Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-6 p.m., anyone who orders a Domino’s pizza may be randomly selected to have their pizza delivered by a fire engine. If the smoke alarms in the home are working, the pizza is free. If the smoke alarms are not working, the firefighters will install fully functioning alarms or replace the batteries. Customers can call Domino’s in San Marcos at 512-392-7272 to place their order and be eligible for the fire engine delivery.

2. League of Women Voters of Hays County sponsors debate for San Marcos City Council candidates
Candidates for the Nov. 7 City Council election will attend a public debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Hays County at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins St. Candidates have received questionnaires prepared by the League of Women Voters. Their responses will be published in the league's Voters Guide, which will be available to the public.

3. City offices closed for Columbus Day
Government offices in Buda will be closed Monday in observance of Columbus Day. The Buda Public Library will also be closed.

4. Hays County wants to test its new flood monitoring system
Hays County has a new interactive, web-based flood monitoring system it wants residents to test. Residents will be asked to use the beta version of the system at a public meeting from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the Kyle Fire Station, 201 W. Moore St. The system includes precipitation monitors, low-water crossing monitors, five Natural Resource Conservation service detention basins, stream gauges, cameras and weather radar. The monitors are located throughout the county at low-water crossings. The first phase of the system is funded through a $500,000 matching Texas Water Development Board grant, with Hays County expected to spend about $350,000 for additional sensors in fiscal year 2018-19.

5. San Marcos looks to honor businesses, volunteers
The San Marcos Main Street Program is calling for nominations for the 2017 Love Downtown Awards. The awards honor downtown business owners and volunteers for their contributions throughout the year. Nominations will be accepted until Oct. 27.
