The project comes as part of a preapproved series of renovations for some of the PISD schools. District Chief Financial Officer Steve Fortenberry said the district usually considers a school eligible for renovations after it passes the 20-year-old mark. Renovations for Robinson Middle School will begin rolling out near the end of the 2017-18 academic year, Fortenberry said.
Similar school renovations in the past have included updates and expansions to existing classrooms, as well as additions of new classrooms. Shepton High School is undergoing similar renovations, district spokesperson Lesley Range-Stanton said.
Trustees also approved an updated $6.2 million expenditure to purchase Chromebooks for students and staff.
The first to receive the laptops will be half of the enrollment of the district high schools and senior high schools, as well as a third of the enrollment of middle schools and elementary schools, according to a district document. The first purchase also includes one laptop for every teacher and librarian.
