We're nearing the midway point of 2017, and there's plenty of local news to follow this week in Plano.

If you haven't checked already, our latest print edition should be hitting mailboxes throughout Plano this week. It's full of local coverage, including our annual healthcare directory and an in-depth look at The Shops at Willow Bend's efforts to diversify its property using methods few shopping malls have tried.

In the meantime, here's what we're keeping our eye on this week in Plano:

1. NTT Data books extra floor at Legacy West

The developer for a 14-story office building at Legacy West announced on Monday that its highest-profile tenant plans to occupy an additional floor.

The announcement brings the total space NTT Data plans to lease at One Legacy West to 152,058 square feet spread across six floors, the Gaedeke Group said in a statement. In all, the developer has leased 56 percent of its more than 300,000-square-foot building.

"The Legacy West development reflects the world-class business climate and quality of life in Plano, and One Legacy West will be a showcase for our company," NTT Data CEO John McCain said in a statement. "We're excited about moving into this vibrant new environment and making it the headquarters for our North American business operations."

Mobile app developer Softweb Solutions Inc. will locate its district office on One Legacy West's second floor, according to Gaedeke. The Chicago-based company will occupy 8,855 square feet of space.

2. Officials to tackle traffic issues on Thursday

The flurry of development nearby the interchange of the Dallas North Tollway and Sam Rayburn Tollway is expected to create new levels of traffic congestion—and state and local officials plan to address some of them publicly in a Thursday press conference.

Officials from the city of Plano, Dallas Area Rapid Transit and the North Texas Tollway Authority and the Texas Department of Transportation will discuss various initiatives to relieve congestion on area roadways, according to Plano spokesman Steve Stoler.

Community Impact Newspaper will be there to cover the press conference and any new initiatives that may be announced.

3. New council to hold first regular meeting

Plano City Council will hold its first regular meeting on Wednesday after recently seating Rick Smith and Anthony Ricciardelli, who won their respective runoff races on June 10.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday in the council chambers at the Plano Municipal Center, 1520 K Ave.

The new council, which also includes newcomer Kayci Prince and recently re-elected Mayor Harry LaRosiliere, will consider various ordinances and contracts, including $3 million for retaining wall improvements along Russell Creek Drive.
