Austin's Public Works Department began making emergency spot repairs Tuesday to Guadalupe Street from Second to 18th streets to address failing pavement that has resulted from increased bus traffic.

City workers will make repairs Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. northbound, and southbound lane reductions will occur until 4 p.m.

Repairs include removing existing asphalt and subgrade material and replacing it with more robust pavement, according to a news release. These repairs are the first phase of a greater effort to address the failing bus lanes in the Guadalupe corridor. This summer, additional work will continue on Guadalupe Street from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Koenig Lane.

Planned repairs

Phase 1: July, MLK to Dean Keeton Street

Phase 2: August-September, Dean Keeton to Lamar Boulevard by The Triangle

Phase 3: September, Lamar to Koenig Lane

Phase 4a: October, Guadalupe Street from MLK to Cesar Chavez Street
