The Hays County Food Bank will host Hunger STRIKE, a fundraising event aimed at collecting donations to fight food insecurity in the county, at the Sunset Bowling Lanes in San Marcos on Friday.

Food Bank Communications Coordinator Mallory Raschke said the event will include a bowling tournament, a silent auction and games.

“We’re ready to have this event and look forward to raising money to fight food insecurity,” Raschke said.

In Hays County, one in seven residents is food insecure, meaning they do not have reliable access to sufficient nutritious food.

The event will take place from 1-4 p.m. at Sunset Bowling Lanes, 1304 Hwy. 123, San Marcos.

Local businesses, civic organization and groups of friends are invited to form teams of five bowlers to compete in the tournament. Trophies will be awarded to the top two teams as well as the best personal game for male and females bowlers.

Entry to the tournament is $500 per team.

A “bowling jackpot” game will also allow bowlers to compete for cash prizes, Raschke said.

The silent auction is currently open, and visitors can place bids by visiting the auction site here. Silent auction items included VIP Mermaid Society Ball tickets, a tour of the Real Ale Brewing Co. in Blanco and a spa package. Bids may be placed in person at the event or online until 3:30 p.m. Friday.
