After five years of service to the Eanes ISD school board, Trustee Beau Ross resigned his post at Tuesday’s board meeting due to personal reasons. The board unanimously accepted his resignation, and also appointed Kal Kallison as an interim board member.
“We are incredibly thankful for Beau’s service to the Eanes ISD community,” Superintendent Tom Leonard said. “For years, he has been an advocate for achieving a balanced budget, and overall financial transparency. We appreciate his tenacity and commitment that has made our district for the better.”
Leonard and Trustee Christie Bybee presented Ross with a plaque to honor his service to the board, and each trustee took a moment to speak about Ross’ contributions to the district.
“I had the benefit of being friends with Beau before we served on the board together and that friendship blossomed and was renewed when we ran together in 2011,” Trustee Rob Hargett said. “It’s been a wonderful five years working with Beau. He has brought passion, brought tenaciousness and he’s brought a sense of humor to the board. I think he also brought a business prospective that the board needed.”
Kallison has worked in education for over 40 years. He served on the EISD board from 2009 to his retirement in 2015 . Kallison was board president in 2011 and 2012, and also served as secretary from 2009-2010.
Board President Colleen Jones said the board felt Ross’ seat should not be left vacant, and that it was in its best interest to appoint an individual with knowledge of district issues.
“I was very honored that the board valued my prior experience to fill the rest of Ross’ term,” Kallison said after Tuesday’s meeting. “I was happy to do it for many reasons, but mainly because of the contributions Beau Ross has given to the district.”
Kallison said he has no intention of running for re-election in May, and will serve only through the remainder of Ross’ term. He said his tenure would not be a "lame duck” term, and he intends to be a very active board member.
“I am going to be an interim, but will be active until the very end and will lend any expertise I have to the board,” Kallison said.
