Hudson Tavern, 5000 Hudson Bend Road, Austin, is slated to feature a “‘Cheers’-type atmosphere but with a higher energy level,” co-owner Frank Todd said of the new development’s familiarity with the popular TV comedy series.

“We wanted something on the lake,” said Todd of his longtime business partnership with co-owner Kyle Hartsell in the lakefront establishment.

He said the bar—located in the former Frog’s Pool Hall in Hudson Bend—is scheduled to open mid-October and will connect to the adjoining The Seafood Shack to offer patrons made-to-order appetizers, entrees and desserts. Menu items will include a spicy seafood gumbo ($7.95), grilled lobster tail ($18.95), grilled oysters ($3.95), egg rolls ($5.95/3 pieces) among other main course and bar food options.

The tavern will have six beer taps and focus on craft beer as well as feature free poker games with prizes, an internet jukebox, big-screen televisions, pool tables, darts and karaoke. Todd said he and Hartsell are aiming to attract the over-35 crowd to the upscale bar that is under renovation.

The new Hudson Bend neighborhood tavern is the second bar this month to announce an opening in the Lake Travis area.
