A lot is going on in the Plano area this month, but here are the top stories heading into the week of Sept. 19. 1. Collin County Commissioners Court is set to approve its FY17 budget and tax rate during today’s meeting. The proposed combined tax rate is $0.208395 per $100 of property valuation. The proposed budget includes a $24.6 million increase from FY 2015-16 because of new property on the county’s tax rolls. According to county documents, the county has seen a total budget increase of 5 percent since 2010. 2. The 37th annual Plano Balloon Festival kicks off Friday at 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 for a day pass and free for children 36 inches and shorter. Buy advance admission tickets at any Texas InTouch Credit Union branch. Tethered balloon rides will be available this year, weather permitting. 3. A retro-themed dining facility is opening at 425 Coit Road, Plano, inside Walmart tomorrow at 7 a.m. State Fair Treats was created by Isaac Rousso, an award-winning concessionaire at the State Fair of Texas. Rousso and his family have been involved with the State Fair of Texas for the past 10 years. State Fair Treats will serve 45 menu items, including Cookie Fries and deep-fried Cuban rolls. 4. Plano ISD will hold a school board work session on Sept. 20 at the Plano ISD Administration Building, located at 2700 W. 15th St. During the meeting, the board will vote to approve a real estate sales contract between PISD and Plano Riverwalk Development Partners and approve Board Advisory Committee appointments. 5. The North Texas Tollway Authority is holding its board meeting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at NTTA's administrative offices, located at 5900 W. Plano Parkway, Plano. Items on the agenda include a briefing on the authority's fiscal year 2017 preliminary budget.
