School officials joined the Plano Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting at the new store,  where teachers can shop for additional school supplies for their students throughout the year at no cost. A recent survey of Plano ISD teachers showed that almost 50 percent of teachers spend more than $250 a year out of their own pockets and 15 percent are spending more than $500 a year on supplies for their classrooms and students. The CORE Store opened in August in order for local teachers to shop by appointment during the first few weeks of school. Plano ISD's corporate partners Capital One and Kroger as well as other local businesses organized supply donations over the summer to help fill the shelves of the store with items, such as backpacks, books and various classroom supplies. The store is located in space donated by Medical Center of Plano. “It is so exciting to see this store become a reality,” Callison said. “This store will help teachers fill in the gaps where their students’ families cannot afford. It is another way as a community that we can support our teachers and students.”
