Collin County Health Care Services confirmed May 9 that a Frisco resident tested positive for the Zika virus.

The Frisco resident contracted the disease while out of the country. The Frisco case is the only reported Zika case in Collin County. Thirty-six cases have been reported in Texas. In May, Plano city staff released mosquito-eating fish into water sources across the city to help lower risk.

“The carrier mosquitoes are day biters, so it’s important to protect yourself all the time. These mosquitoes actually prefer to live very close to people’s homes,” said Rachel Patterson, environmental health director for the city of Plano. “This makes it even more imperative that residents are eliminating absolutely every source of standing water around their homes. These mosquitoes can breed in just
a capful of water.”
