A proposed multifamily development at the current site of Plano Marine, located at K Avenue and 10th Street, is one step closer to reality. Council members at a May 23 regular meeting approved the rezoning of the site to potentially make way for a 385-unit multifamily development. Site plans for the six-acre project include a separate parking garage linked by a sky bridge as well as a fitness center, resort-style pool and other high-end amenities. The council approved the rezoning in a a 7-1 vote, with Council Member Tom Harrison casting the dissenting vote. Dallas-based developer Alliance Residential has built similar communities in Austin, Houston and Dallas, including Broadstone Ambrose in Deep Ellum. Once the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council approves the site plan, a representative for the developer said the company would like to break ground within the next 12 months. Plano Marine is a full service boat dealer that opened its downtown Plano location in 1951. The company, which also provides boat storage and parts, also has a  dealership in Longview, Texas.
