The Plano City Council will hold several public hearings during its Jan. 11 meeting. During the hearings, City Council will consider resolutions to support builder applications for a 9 percent housing tax credit through the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.
The state's housing tax credit program helps direct private capital toward the development and preservation of affordable rental housing for low-income households at below-market rate rents. The credits also offset a portion of a builder's federal tax liability, according to the TDHCA's website.
One of the developments that may be granted approval to apply for the tax credits is The Veranda Townhomes, a 40-unit development that will be located at Coit and McDermott roads. Approximately 20 of the units will be made affordable to households between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income. Plano Housing Corporation is the applicant for the tax credits.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m., with a preliminary meeting scheduled to take place immediately after council's 5 p.m. workshop at Municipal Center, 1520 K Ave.
Other items for discussion include:
- Consider a rezoning request for 61 acres at the southwest corner of Park Boulevard and Alma Drive for the development of approximately 70 patio homes (applicant: Pitman Partners LTD)
- Consider an appeal of the Planning and Zoning Commission's denial of a concept plan for 413 multifamily housing units to be built on 16 acres on the east side of Alma Drive south of Park Boulevard (applicant: Plano Riverwalk Development Partners, LTD)
- Council members will also receive a briefing by city staff on the new open carry laws during its preliminary meeting.
