Clearport Clearport will open by the end of July as a bar and music venue on historic Sixth Street.[/caption] A new music venue is slated to open on Historic Sixth Street by the end of July. Clearport will feature DJs Wednesday through Sunday upon opening at 516 E. Sixth St., Ste. 2. The space will also host live musical performances, said Niles Patel, Clearport's director of operations. "Wednesdays will be a specific genre, and Thursdays will be a specific genre. Fridays and Saturdays are open format, kind of everything since there's such a wide variety of folks out on Fridays and Saturdays," Patel said. "Sunday is a 'Sunday Funday' type of thing." The 6,600-square-foot bar is primarily an outdoor venue with some small interior space, Patel said. A full bar will be included in the two-story nightlife destination, which includes an aviation and runway theme. "As you enter into the property, the concrete slab is going to be stained to mimic the runway, and on the walls we have artificial grass installed so as you enter in it kind of looks like you're landing on a runway," he said. An airplane will eventually be installed on the second story's overhang so patrons on the bottom floor get the feel of an airplane taking off above them, Patel said. The sound and lighting at Clearport will rival that of other nightlife and music venues, he said. "We have an incredible sound system. Probably one of the best sound systems in all of Austin including some of the major venues like ACL and Stubb's," Patel said. "We have a light presentation, club and stage lighting, that is being provided by high-end systems and we're the only venue in the state of Texas to have it." Management is interviewing food truck owners to decide whether Clearport will host one large food truck or two to three smaller food trucks. The project is the first recent ground-up construction project along Historic Sixth Street, Patel said, instead of a remodel.
