Capital One announced this week that it would be closing its Irving call center and transferring some of its employees to its regional headquarters in Plano.

In a Workers Adjustment Retraining Notification, or WARN, notice filed with the state of Texas and dated May 6, the banking company stated it would be cutting 299 of the 483 positions at the Irving location. Of those, 183 of the workers have accepted transfers to the Plano campus at 7933 Preston Road.

Employees at the Royal Ridge facility in Irving were first informed of the call center consolidation last summer. The positions will be eliminated in phases by Sept. 5, according to the notice.

“This decision comes as part of a regular business review to ensure Capital One is operating as efficiently as possible while continuing to provide quality services and products to its customers,” said Steven Thorpe, spokesperson for Capital One. “This was a difficult decision that Capital One’s leaders did not take lightly.”

Associates whose positions are being eliminated may post for other Capital One roles for which they are qualified. If they choose not to pursue an internal role, the associates will be eligible to receive a severance package, including retraining assistance and outplacement services.

“Capital One’s seven-building Plano campus is an ideal location for the new smaller customer contact center that will become the workplace for many of the associates currently working at our Royal Ridge facility. There is room to accommodate the new associates, and we look forward to them working on the campus,” said Girish Bachani, Collin County Market President for Capital One, in a statement. “We believe the features that make Capital One’s Plano campus one of the top places to work in the Metroplex will ensure a smooth transition and be a great place to work for the associates moving here from Irving.”
