According to unofficial total voting results, Jim Orr is leading the race for Place 7 of the Collin College board of trustees with 6,426 votes, or 39.9 percent of the votes, compared with Collin Kennedy with 4,325 votes, or 26.9 percent of the votes. Incumbent Steve Cone also has 3176 votes, or 19.8 percent of the votes, and Mike Gould has 2,153 votes, or 13.4 percent of the votes. Because no one candidate had more than 51 percent of the votes, a runoff election will take place for Place 7. For Place 8, incumbent Bob Collins won the race with 9,662 votes, or 59.9 percent of the votes. Challenger Ken Roberts has 6,473 votes, or 40.1 percent of the votes. "I want to continue doing the things we've done in the past, which is to try to be the best that we can be," Collins said. "Really, our ultimate objective is to be the top community college in the country." Incumbent Steve Cone also has 2,180 votes, or 20.5 percent of the votes, and Mike Gould has 1,431 votes, or 13.5 percent of the votes. For Place 8, incumbent Bob Collins is ahead with 6,394 votes, or 59.5 percent of the votes, and Ken Roberts has 4,349 votes, or 40.5 percent of the votes. Each board member serves at large for a six-year term. The results are unofficial until canvassed. In the event that one candidate does not secure a majority of the votes, a runoff election will be held June 13. Place 7 Cone has lived in Collin County since 2006. He is a U.S. Army Reserve veteran who has served on the College Board and taught at Frisco ISD. He has been on the Collin College board of trustees since last year. He received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Hardin-Simmons University and a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Texas at Permian Basin. Gould is a Plano resident and restaurant general manager. He has a background in radio broadcasting and has served as precinct chair. He will receive an associate degree in liberal arts from Collin College this May. Kennedy has lived in Collin County for almost 11 years, and he and his wife have two daughters. If elected, Kennedy plans to prepare a long-term plan to grow the college and create additional partnerships with Collin County’s private business sector. Orr and his wife have three children, one who attends Collin College. Orr has spent much of his career in technology business development. He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in business administration from Washington State University. Place 8 Collins is a founding board member, serving on the board since 1985. He also has served as a Plano Planning and Zoning Commission member, a Plano City Council member and chairman of the Collin County Central Appraisal District. He received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Lamar University, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Dallas and a doctorate in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University. Roberts has lived in Plano for 30 years and has three daughters who graduated from Plano Senior High School. He has served on the Plano Rotary Club for 16 years, serving as the club president and executive board member during his tenure. He currently serves on the Collin County Parks Foundation and North Texas Mensa.
