The second location of El Chile transformed into AlcoMar on April 17. The new restaurant blends seafood and Mexican cuisine and is the fifth concept to come from El Chile Group, owned by Carol Rivero. "We've had such a big hit with our recent new creations," Rivero told Community Impact Newspaper in January. "Seafood is one of my favorite cuisines, and I've been wanting to do a more upscale, seafood-Mexican concept for some time." Many changes to the 1816 S. First St. location of El Chile were going on while it was still open in order to allow a smooth transition to AlcoMar. El Chile closed after lunch April 16 and opened the next day with the AlcoMar menu. The concept is run by co-executive chefs Alma Alcocer of El Alma and Jeff Martinez of El Chile, whose last name combine to give the new restaurant its name. Patrons can enjoy various items including gulf oysters, calamari, steak salad, red snapper in mole verde as well as dessert options. Cocktails and wine are also available.
