Major projects in the area
1. MoPac
Upon completion the highway will have one new lane in each direction from Parmer Lane to Cesar Chavez Street that will be tolled. Current construction includes bridge widening, building sound walls, installing drainage, constructing a retaining wall in the median north of RM 2222, installing conduit and cables to support the toll collection and intelligent transportation systems, and completing the relocation of temporary ramps to make room for sound walls and other project elements.
Timeline: December 2013–Fall 2015
Cost: $204 million
Funding sources: Federal and Texas Department of Transportation dollars
2. Burnet Road improvements
The city's design consultant is working on a technical memorandum prioritizing locations for improvements. The consultant is conducting field studies on Burnet Road from MoPac to West Koenig Lane to look for strengths and weaknesses. Following the evaluation period, the city will host a public workshop at which stakeholders will have an opportunity to provide comments on potential project segments. Stakeholder input will help narrow the project's scope. Once public input has been incorporated, the technical memorandum will be finalized and will serve as a road map for the design phase of the project and to document the selected locations recommended for design and construction. The technical memorandum will be finished in September. Design will start in October and continue through April 2016. A similar process will take place for North Lamar Boulevard from I-35 to US 183.
