The Austin Young Chamber of Commerce announced a partnership with the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Austin Black Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce to survey the city's business community.

The survey has already received approximately 400 responses but will continue to run until mid-summer, said Matt Glazer, Austin Young Chamber of Commerce executive director.

Out of those surveyed, 75 percent of the respondents said they've lived in Austin for more than four years. The top concerns for those working in Austin included traffic congestion and housing affordability.

So far, 56 percent said they would be willing to take a pay cut to avoid moving from Austin.

These results are preliminary and they are looking for more feedback, said Andy Cates, Austin Young Chamber public policy chairman.

Glazer said the partnership was necessary to get more results throughout Austin rather than any one demographic.

"We just wanted to make sure we were as diverse as the Austin community, and we wanted to make sure everyone's voice was heard," Glazer said.

The purpose of the survey is to better understand the Austin business community in order to figure out the strengths and weaknesses of the city's business culture. Glazer said he hopes the results will help guide the Austin Young Chamber of Commerce in what changes the organizations needs to pursue.

"For us, it's just about changing the direction about the Austin Young Chamber," Glazer said. "We're trying to increase economic development but also civil engagement."
