A local organization is collecting donations to provide slippers for children with cancer in Austin before Christmas Day.
The Team Jaylie Slipper Drive is seeking donations for children with cancer at Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas. In 2012, the drive collected more than 1,200 pairs of slippers, according to the organization.
This year, organizers aim to collect 1,000 pairs of slippers by Dec. 18, and if the goal is exceeded, the Team Jaylie Slipper Drive plans to mail the remaining slippers to children with cancer throughout the nation.
The Team Jaylie Slipper Drive is in need of brand new slippers for males and females in sizes newborn to adult. Slippers may be mailed or dropped off at Jaylie's father's dental office at 10123 Lake Creek Pkwy, Bldg. 2, Austin.
Slippers will be delivered to children at Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas before Christmas Day.
The organization began after Jaylie Nielsen finished cancer treatment in 2011 and decided she wanted to give children with cancer pairs of slippers. The second annual slipper drive in 2012 collected slippers for children at the Dell Children's Hospital and the Children's Blood and Cancer Center.
