A new member of the So-La Blue Food Court debuted in August with Texas-style barbecue.
Owners John and Jaylyn Morell started Lone Star BBQ, 2323 S. Lamar Blvd., by using family recipes and traditional techniques.
"We wanted to to share the flavors that we grew up with," the couple said in a statement. "That's why we stuck with traditional recipes for our food. There's just something about good, old-fashioned barbecue that is comforting and really makes you feel at home."
Lone Star BBQ specializes in multiple items, including brisket, which is slow-smoked over an oak fire. They also have a house-made barbecue sauce, tender pork ribs, sausage and sausage wraps available in addition to smoked pork belly, chopped beef sandwiches and classic side items. 512-739-4724. www.facebook.com/LoneStarBBQAustin
Other Impacts:
NOW OPEN—After relocating to South First Street in June, El Chile Cafe y Cantina reopened its 1809 Manor Road location on Oct. 30. As reported by Community Impact Newspaper in September, owner and founder Carlos Rivero said the expansion is an opportunity for the restaurant to branch out. There is also a new location of El Chilito—a taco stand on Manor Road also owned by Rivero—in the works near Manchaca Road and Redd Street that is scheduled to open next spring. 512-457-9900. www.elchilecafe.com
