Radisson Hotel and Suites in downtown Austin, 111 E. Cesar Chavez St., will soon replace recently closed TGI Fridays with a new project from Chef Shawn Cirkiel and the Forestar Group.

The yet-to-be-named restaurant will open in January and will feature contemporary southwestern cuisine, a spokeswoman confirmed. The menu will include shareable plates and sides that feature locally sourced meats, fish and produce, Cirkiel said in a statement.

"For us, it is a great opportunity to create the food we like to cook and eat in a unique environment," he said.

Austin-based architect Michael Hsu has been tasked with redesigning the space formerly occupied by TGI Fridays, which closed July 20. The contemporary new style will include oversized windows with views of Lady Bird Lake, according to a news release.

Cirkiel's other projects include parkside, a gastropub at 301 E. Sixth St., the backspace, a pizzeria on 507 San Jacinto Blvd., and olive & june, a Southern-style Italian restaurant on 3411 Glenview Ave.
