A subdivision of eight custom high-end homes, Lakeway Airpark Estates, has been cleared for takeoff on the east side of Lakeway's airpark, said the development's exclusive builder, Steve Zbranek, partner at Zbranek and Holt Custom Homes.
Zbranek, who owns two airplanes based at the Lakeway Airpark, is using his experience as a commercial pilot and instructor to create the homesites for customers wanting easy access to their aircraft.
"These [homesites] are for buyers who want to hit the garage door opener, pull their car into the front of their home and then hit the hangar door opener for their plane to [taxi] out of the back of their home," Zbranek said.
Seven sites will include attached hangers, and most of the lots are long and narrow, a good size, Zbranek said, to accommodate an airplane hangar connected to a breezeway that adjoins a home. One homesite does not directly abut the taxiway, but will be close enough to access its hangar by golf cart, he said.
"[Lakeway Airpark Estates] is designed to mirror the development on the west side of the airpark," Lakeway City Manager Steve Jones said. "This [development] will add some new homes that are fairly unique."
The homes will have stone and stucco exteriors and tile or metal roofs, Zbranek said. They will range in size from 3,600 square feet to 6,000 square feet and cost $889,000 to $1,800,000, which includes an airplane hangar, swimming pool, landscaping and technology pre-wiring, he said.
Construction on the first homes in the development can begin this fall, Zbranek said, with completion expected by summer 2014. Lakeway Airpark Estates is the last section that will be developed at the airpark, he said.
