Park plays home to variety of events

One of the most popular parks in The Woodlands, Northshore Park has been a focal point of family entertainment and community events since its creation in 1987.

Chris Nunes, parks and recreation director for The Woodlands Township, said Northshore Park is roughly 7 acres and features one of the largest open field areas of any park in The Woodlands, making it popular for football, Frisbee and other outdoor activities. Nunes said the park features two volleyball courts, two large pavilions, a stage, two playgrounds, picnic areas along the water and a pathway that encircles the park along Lake Woodlands.

"It's a very popular amenity among the residents," Nunes said.

Northshore Park has also developed a reputation as a host destination for events in The Woodlands, Nunes said. In addition to the Concert in the Park series, which features seven or eight live musical performances in the spring and the fall, Northshore Park has been the site of many community events, such as the annual YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge and Spring Bark, hosted by the Lone Star Animal Welfare League.

"There are a number of groups which raise awareness for their causes, and Northshore Park has become a location for that," Nunes said.

The park is also a boat launch for canoes, kayaks and small sailboats, while also serving as the starting point for athletic events, such as the CB&I Triathlon and Memorial Hermann IronMan Texas, he said.

"People have known about the park for a long time, and a lot of community events have been held there," Nunes said. "It's one of the larger parks in the community and it's been a part of the community for a long time."
