1. Eighth Street
- Project: Reconstruct Eighth Street from Congress Avenue to West Avenue and replace curbs, gutters and driveways as necessary. Improvements to pedestrian mobility, including wider sidewalks with a reduction of vehicular lanes along some areas of the project, new trees, street lights, benches, trash bins, traffic signal improvements and utility improvements will also be made.
- Cost: $3.9 million
- Funding source: The Capital Improvement Project's 2006 bond program
- Timeline: The project is expected to begin in summer 2012 and is expected to be completed in winter 2013.
2. East Sixth Street
- Project: Reconstruct Congress Avenue to I-35, ensure ramps are ADA compliant, widen and refurbish sidewalks, add streetscape amenities and install gateway signage
- Cost: Approximately $11 million
- Funding source: The Capital Improvement Project's 2010 bond program for the design phase only
- Timeline: The project is expected to begin in November 2013 and end in November 2014.
3. Second Street
- Project: Reconstruct Second Street from Congress Avenue to Trinity Street to conduct pavement grade adjustments; address ADA issues; construct new sidewalks and parking spaces; and install new landscaping, Art in Public Places program additions, lighting, signage, benches and bikes racks.
- Cost: $5.3 million
- Funding source: 2000 and 2006 bonds, Austin Water Utility and Capital Metro quarter-cent funds
- Timeline: The project will begin in April 2012 and is expected to be completed in April 2013.
4. 34th Street
- Project: Reconstruct 34th Street from Shoal Creek Boulevard to Medical Parkway to repair damaged or missing curbs, gutters, and driveways, improve utility lines, add bike lanes in each direction and a crosswalk to Seton Hospital, replace Shoal Creek Boulevard's retaining wall and pedestrian handrail and improve inlets and water lines on Bailey Lane and Grandview Street.
- Cost: $3.4 million
- Funding source: The Capital Improvement Project's 2006 bond program
- Timeline: The project began in July 2011 and is expected to be completed in September 2012.
5. Rio Grande Street
- Project: Reconstruct Rio Grande Street and improve sidewalks and replace underground utilities between MLK Jr. Boulevard to West 29th Street in two phases
- Cost: $11.2 million
- Funding source: The Capital Improvement Project's 2006 bond program
- Timeline: The first phase of the project began in October 2010. It is expected to be completed in March 2012. The second phase will begin in fall 2012.
6. Oltorf Street
- Project: Reconstruct Oltorf Street between I-35 and Congress Avenue and replace utilities and sidewalks
- Cost: $3.7 million
- Funding source: 2006 bond program
- Timeline: The project began in May 2011 and is expected to be completed in September 2012.
