Texas Tito’s to receive $550K grant from New Braunfels EDC for water line, employment creation

The New Braunfels City Council approved a recommendation at the May 9 meeting for the New Braunfels Economic Development Corp. to grant Texas Tito’s, a New Braunfels-based company that sells a variety of individually packaged pickles, up to $550,000 for job creation at a new facility the company is building at 1286 River Road.

In March, Texas Tito’s announced it will open a new facility to expand its operations. That new warehouse, factory and office space is slated to open in 2023.

The $550,000 grant is meant to offset the cost of a 12-inch water line to the new facility. As previously reported by Community Impact Newspaper, the new facility is projected to cost a total of $4 million-$5 million.

“Specifically, the funds would be going towards a cost associated with the design and construction of public infrastructure, specifically a public water pipe,” said Jeff Jewell, director of economic and community development for the city.

"Texas Tito’s is a New Braunfels-based company that's been here for about 15 years. They produce prepackaged, acidified vegetables and also produce private label summer sausage. They have looked at an expansion project for at least a year that I know of,” Jewell said, adding the property is serviced by a 4-inch water line that is not adequate to provide fire flow for the project.

City Council members asked whether the 12-inch water line would be sufficient for other developments around the new facility. Jewell said the line is dedicated public infrastructure and future projects on adjacent properties could tie into that.

In exchange for the funding, Texas Tito’s is obligated in the agreement to complete construction and begin operations by the end of June 2023 at an assessable property tax value of at least $3 million as well as increasing and maintaining the number of full-time employees at the facility through 2027.
