During a regular meeting on Oct. 12, New Braunfels City Council approved an additional $237,102 in funding for STV, Inc. for the Solms Road Improvement Project after a traffic analysis identified the need for additional turn lanes.
New Braunfels voters approved the Solms Road Improvement Project, from I-35 frontage road to FM 482, under the city’s 2023 Bond, Proposition A. The roadway will be widened from two lanes to three. A traffic signal will also be added at the FM 482 intersection.
What's happening
The Texas Department of Transportation, city staff and STV staff reviewed traffic data and determined widening the FM 482 and Solms Road intersection at all four corners would give room to add the turn lanes, according to agenda documents.
The traffic signal and turn lanes would coordinate with the existing traffic signal at I-35—aiming to improve traffic flows on Solms Road and FM 482, according to agenda documents.
Widening the roadway requires additional design services. The $237,102 will allow STV to complete final plans for the roadways and pedestrian improvements. Funding for the additional design services is available through Proposition A of the city’s 2023 Bond and Roadway Impact Fee Service Area 4, according to agenda documents.
